斗dòu: Dòu cǎo is a game, so this character is read dòu, meaning to compete.“斗草”是一种游戏，“斗”读 dòu，意思是比赛、争斗。
甚shén: Yīn shén means for what reason. Here this character is read shén, as in the word for what.“因甚”就是“因为什么”，这里的“甚”读 shén，同“什么”的“什”。

Background创作背景

Guixi is in today's Deqing area of Zhejiang. The title says Wu Wenying wrote this in spring while staying at Guixi as a guest, on a visit to a ruined garden. It was the Cold Food Festival, and he was alone far from home. The garden's scenes made him think of growing old and of his drifting life, so he wrote this lyric. The exact year is not known.

龟溪在今天浙江德清一带。题目说，这是春天词人客居龟溪时，去游一座荒废的园子写的。正赶上寒食节，他一个人在外地，看到园中景物，想到自己年纪渐老、漂泊不定，写下了这首词。具体是哪一年写的，已经无法确定。

The poet作者

Wu Wenying (about 1200 – about 1260), known by his pen name Mengchuang, came from Siming, today's Ningbo in Zhejiang. He never held office and spent many years as a guest adviser to officials around Suzhou and Hangzhou, often living away from home. His lyrics choose words with great care and paint fine, detailed pictures. He often weaves the scene before him together with the past and with dreams, which gives his work a hazy beauty.

吴文英（约1200—约1260），号梦窗，四明（今浙江宁波）人。他一生没有做官，长年在苏州、杭州一带给官员做门客，常常客居他乡。他的词用字讲究，画面细密，常把眼前景物和往事、梦境交织在一起，读起来有一种朦胧的美。

The mood意境

The first stanza is the walk through the garden. He picks wild flowers, passes through the old garden, by cold bamboo, along a path into the hills. In the sand by the stream there are still small footprints from girls playing the grass game. This place was once lively, but now only he is here. He touches his temples and finds them white. Another Cold Food Festival has come, and he is still a guest deep in the hills. The second stanza is about weather and mood. The day passes idly, and Heaven is stingy: a few clouds and it rains. Green shade hides the pavilion, and his dream of home can only drift away with the willow fluff. At last the flower shadows and the orioles seem to understand him, holding him still for a long moment. The whole lyric is quiet and light, yet full of a loneliness and homesickness that is hard to put into words.

上片写游园。词人采野花，走过古园，竹林清冷，小路伸进山里。溪边沙地上还留着女孩子玩斗草时的小脚印，可见这里曾经很热闹，如今却只剩他一个人。他摸摸两鬓，已经白了；又是一个寒食节，他却还在深山里做客。下片写天气和心情。白天闲闲地过去，老天偏偏小气，天一阴就下雨。绿荫遮住长亭，想回家的梦只能跟着柳絮飘走。最后，花影和莺声好像懂他的心，把他留住，让他在原地站了好一会儿。整首词淡淡的，却透着一种说不出的孤单和思乡之情。
