Background创作背景

In 1074 Su Shi went to Mizhou, today's Zhucheng in Shandong, as its prefect, the head of the district. The next year he repaired an old terrace on the north side of the town, and his brother Su Zhe named it the Chaoran Terrace. This lyric is usually dated to late spring 1076, just after the Cold Food Festival. Climbing the terrace, Su Shi saw spring all over the town and thought of the home he had left long ago. Then he told himself to set the sadness down and enjoy the days in front of him.

宋神宗熙宁七年（1074年），苏轼到密州（今山东诸城）做知州（一个州的长官）。第二年，他把城北一座旧台修好，弟弟苏辙给它取名“超然台”。一般认为这首词写于熙宁九年（1076年）暮春，寒食节刚过。苏轼登台远望，看到满城春色，想起离开很久的家乡，又劝自己放下愁思，好好过眼前的日子。

The poet作者

Su Shi (1037–1101), also called Dongpo, was a great writer of the Northern Song. He was a master of poems, lyrics, prose, calligraphy and painting. He was sent away from the capital many times, yet he always found a way to look on the bright side and find joy in hard days. After leaving his hometown of Meishan he seldom went back. His poems often show homesickness, and often show him easing it himself.

苏轼（1037—1101），号东坡居士，北宋大文学家，诗、词、文章、书法、绘画样样精通。他一生多次被贬到外地，但总能看得开，在苦日子里找到乐趣。他离开家乡眉山后就很少回去，诗词里常常流露思乡之情，又常常自己把它化解掉。

The mood意境

The first half is a spring scene seen from high up: a soft wind, leaning willows, a moat half full of water, a town full of flowers, and then a misty rain that wraps every home in haze. The colors move from bright to soft. The second half turns inward. After the Cold Food Festival he sobers up and starts to sigh, because he misses home. But Su Shi does not let himself stay sad. Don't long for home in front of friends, he says; light the new fire and make a pot of new tea. The last line, about poems and wine while the good years last, speaks to himself and to every reader: good times do not wait, so enjoy them.
