Underlined words have notes: tap one. The Pinyin button below shows or hides all pinyin. 一 and 不 are marked with the tone you actually say.字下有虚线的,点开有注释。下方的“拼音”按钮可以显示或隐藏全部拼音。“一”“不”标的是实际读出来的变调。

The last character in the source text was changed by machine conversion into the character for "apple". The right word is bái pín, a white-flowered water plant, a different character.

最后一字底本作“苹”,是繁体“蘋”被机器转成简体时出的错。“白蘋”是一种水草,读 bái pín,和苹果的“苹”不是一个字。

Background创作背景

This is a farewell poem. Wang the Eleventh was a friend of the poet. "Eleventh" was his place among the cousins of his family; his own name is no longer known. The friend was leaving by boat for the Five Lakes in the south, and the poet held a farewell meal for him (that is what jian bie in the title means) and wrote this poem. We do not know exactly when.

这是一首送别诗。王十一是诗人的朋友,“十一”是他在家族同辈里的排行,名字已经不知道了。朋友要坐船往南去五湖一带,诗人摆酒为他送行(这就是“饯别”),写下了这首诗。写作的具体时间不清楚。

The poet作者

Liu Changqing was a Tang poet of the middle period; sources disagree about his dates. He was best at five-character poems and was called "the Great Wall of five-character verse". His career went badly, and he wrote many moving poems about parting from friends and missing them.

刘长卿,唐代中期诗人,生卒年说法不一。他擅长五言诗,被称为“五言长城”。他一生仕途不顺,送别、怀人的诗写得特别多,也特别动情。

The mood意境

The poem follows the parting step by step. First the friend boards the boat, and the poet waves and cries. The boat sails off; even the birds vanish, and only the green hills face him. The word "for nothing" shows how empty he feels once his friend is gone. Next there is just one sail on the long river, smaller and smaller. The poet imagines his friend reaching the Five Lakes, where it is spring. At the end the boat is out of sight, but the poet still stands on the sandbar, staring at the water plants. The poem moves from near to far and then back to the poet himself, showing how hard it is to let a friend go.

这首诗按照送别的过程来写。先是朋友上船,诗人挥手流泪;船走远了,连飞鸟也看不见了,只剩青山对着他。“空”字写出了人走后的空落落。接着,长江上只剩一片帆,越来越小,诗人想象朋友到了五湖,那里正是春天。最后,船已经看不见了,诗人还站在沙洲上,对着水草发呆。整首诗从近到远,又从远回到自己,把舍不得的心情写得很深。
