How to read it读音

斜xié: This character is read xié today. In old pronunciation it rhymed with the other line endings, so some read it xiá.“斜”现在读 xié。古音和“家、麻、花”押韵，有人按古音读 xiá。
场cháng: In cháng pǔ, the character means a flat open ground for drying and threshing grain, read cháng.“场圃”的“场”指平坦的空地，用来晒粮食、打谷子，读 cháng。
还huán: Here this character means again. It is usually read huán; some read it hái.“还”在这里是“再、又”的意思，一般读 huán，也有人读 hái。

Background创作背景

Meng Haoran spent most of his life in his hometown, Xiangyang in today's Hubei. For a time he lived quietly on Lumen Mountain outside the city. An old friend in the countryside cooked a meal and invited him to his farm. He went, ate, drank and talked about farming with his friend, and was very happy. Then he wrote this poem. In the title, guò means to visit and zhuāng means a farm. We do not know the year.

孟浩然大半生住在家乡襄阳（今湖北襄阳），曾在城外的鹿门山隐居。一位住在乡下的老朋友准备了饭菜，请他去农庄做客。他去了，和朋友吃饭、喝酒、聊农事，非常开心，就写下了这首诗。题目里的“过”是拜访的意思，“庄”是农庄。具体是哪一年写的，已经不清楚了。

The poet作者

Meng Haoran (689–740), from Xiangyang, was a Tang poet. He never held office. He spent most of his life living quietly at home or traveling. He wrote about hills, rivers and farms, and he is named together with Wang Wei as the two masters of this kind of poem. His poems are plain and natural, like friendly talk, and this one is a fine example.

孟浩然（689—740），襄阳人，唐代诗人。他一生没有做过官，大部分时间在家乡隐居和四处游历。他擅长写山水田园诗，和王维并称“王孟”。他的诗平淡自然，像在聊家常，这首就是代表。

The mood意境

This poem is like a diary of a visit. An old friend invites him to a meal. It is only chicken and rice, but it is made with care. At the edge of the village, green trees ring the houses, and green hills lie beyond. What a lovely place. Inside, the window opens onto the threshing floor and the garden. The two drink and talk about how the crops are growing. There are no polite speeches, and no talk of officials. At the end the poet himself says he will come back at the Double Ninth Festival to see the chrysanthemums. He never says he is happy, yet we can feel the simple, warm friendship between them.

这首诗像一篇做客日记。老朋友请吃饭，菜是普通的鸡和米饭，却很有心意。走到村口，绿树围着村子，远处是青山，环境多么好。进了屋，打开窗子就是打谷场和菜园，两个人一边喝酒，一边聊庄稼长得怎么样，没有客套，也不谈官场的事。最后诗人主动说，重阳节我还要来看菊花。不用说“我很开心”，读者也能感觉到这份朋友之间淳朴的情谊。
