槛jiàn: Here this character means a railing and is read jiàn. Read kǎn, it means a doorsill.“槛”指栏杆，读 jiàn。读 kǎn 时是门槛的意思。
角jiǎo: Huà jiǎo is a painted horn, so this character is read jiǎo.“画角”是画着花纹的号角，“角”读 jiǎo。

Background创作背景

In this ci the poet climbs an old rampart in a riverside town and gazes far from a tall pavilion. Summer has just ended and autumn is arriving. He looks toward the capital, remembers the happy days he had there, and thinks how hard it is to see old friends again. Liu Yong spent much of his life travelling from post to post, and he wrote this while far from home. We do not know which town it was or in what year.

这首词写作者在一座江边城市登上旧城垒，从高高的亭子里远望，正是夏天刚过、秋天刚来的时候。他望着京城的方向，想起从前在那里的欢乐日子，又想到老朋友难再相聚。柳永一生多半在外地奔波，这首词就是他漂泊在外时写的。具体是哪座城、哪一年，现在说不清楚。

The poet作者

Liu Yong (about 984 – about 1053) came from Chong'an, today's Wuyishan in Fujian. As a young man he lived in the capital and wrote songs for singing girls. He failed the exams many times before passing, then held only small posts and drifted for years. He was a master of long, slow ci, and wrote most movingly about the loneliness of travel and the pain of parting.

柳永（约984—约1053），原名三变，字耆卿，崇安（今福建武夷山）人。他年轻时在京城生活，常为歌女写词，考了很多次才中进士，后来只做过小官，长年漂泊。他擅长写长调慢词，写旅途的孤单和离别的愁苦最动人。

The mood意境

The first stanza is the view from the heights. Lonely ramparts, a tall pavilion, and below, a misty islet in the river. After rain a rainbow hangs in the sky, a cool wind brushes the railing, and the summer heat eases a little. One falling leaf makes him realise autumn has come, and late cicadas still shrill in the evening. He looks toward the capital, but it lies deep in clouds and he cannot see it. The second stanza turns to his heart. The more he thinks, the sadder he gets. New sorrows pile up easily, but old friends are hard to gather. He stands up high all day and gains nothing but a speechless ache. The last picture is lovely and cold. Thin mist drifts after the rain, crows fly in disorder, the river town grows bleak, and the horn on the south tower sends the setting sun away once more. The scene grows darker, and his mood grows heavier.

上片是登高看到的景。荒凉的城垒，高高的亭子，下面是雾气笼罩的江中小洲。雨后挂着彩虹，凉风吹过栏杆，夏天的闷热稍稍退去。一片落叶让人惊觉秋天来了，傍晚残蝉还在叫。这时他望向京城，那里在云霭深处，看不见。下片转入心情：越想越伤感，新的愁容易堆起来，老朋友却难相聚。他在高处站了一整天，只换来说不出话的难过。最后的画面很美也很冷：雨后的雾气轻轻飘着，乌鸦乱飞，江城一片萧条，南楼的号角声又把夕阳送走了。景物越来越暗，心情也越来越沉。
