The words match the usual text. The source gives the tune name as Xing Hua Tian, but the usual text has Xing Hua Tian Ying, a new tune Jiang Kui made by changing the old Xing Hua Tian a little.

Background

A short note before the poem says that in the winter of 1186 the poet set out from Miankou, where the Han River flows into the Yangtze. On the second day of the first month of 1187 he passed Jinling and looked north toward the Huai region. The weather was clear and fine, and his little boat drifted slowly under its sail. He was then traveling east to Huzhou with his friend Xiao Dezao. It is usually thought that the woman he once loved lived in Hefei, to the north across the Huai lands, so he uses the story of Taoye to write about missing her.

The poet作者

Jiang Kui (about 1155 to about 1221), also called the Daoist of White Rock, was a Southern Song ci poet and musician. He never held office and drifted from place to place. He knew music deeply and often wrote both the tune and the words. His poems feel cool and airy. He seldom says his feelings outright, but hides them in scenery and old stories, as he does here.

The mood意境

This poem is about a moment of hesitation on a boat. At the start, willow threads brush Mandarin Duck Shore, and the paired ducks call to mind a pair of lovers. The poet remembers the story of Taoye Ferry, where Wang Xianzhi saw off the woman he loved. He hides his own longing inside this old story. Then he is about to go, yet stays a little longer. He wants to leave but cannot bear to, and in a few words we feel how much he cares. The second half shows spring in Jinling, with orioles singing and swallows dancing. The livelier it is, the lonelier he feels. Only the tide, he says, knows his pain. At last night falls. The sandbars are green with grass, yet he cannot go home. Even if he rows on, where could he go? The poem ends with that question and leaves us to feel how lost and rootless he is.
