How to read it读音

著zhuó: In "with dew on it" the character means to cling to, and is read zhuó.著露：沾着露水，“著”是附着的意思，读 zhuó。
干gān: Here lán gān describes tears streaming down in every direction.阑干：这里形容眼泪纵横流淌的样子，读 lán gān。
朝zhāo: In zhāo zhāo mù mù, every morning and evening, it is read zhāo.朝朝暮暮：每天早晨和傍晚，“朝”读 zhāo。

Background创作背景

While Mao Pang served as a judicial clerk in Hangzhou, he grew very close to a singer named Qiongfang. When his term ended he left Hangzhou. Reaching Fuyang, he stayed at a monastery and wrote this lyric for her. A story says Su Shi later heard it sung at a banquet and asked who wrote it. When he learned it was Mao Pang, a man on his own staff, he said it was his fault for not knowing such a poet worked under him, and sent people to bring Mao Pang back. The story comes from later notes and may not be fully reliable.

毛滂在杭州做法曹（管司法的小官）时，和一位叫琼芳的歌女感情很深。任期满了，他离开杭州，走到富阳，住在一座寺院里，写下这首词寄给她。相传后来苏轼在宴会上听到有人唱这首词，问是谁写的，得知是自己手下的毛滂，就说：手下有这样的词人我却不知道，是我的错。于是派人把他追了回来。这个故事出自后人的笔记，未必完全可靠。

The poet作者

Mao Pang came from Jiangshan in Quzhou, in today's Zhejiang. He was a Northern Song lyric poet, and accounts of his dates differ. He held several minor local posts and knew Su Shi and his circle. His lyrics are fresh and natural, with sincere feeling. This lyric is his most famous work.

毛滂，字泽民，衢州江山（今属浙江）人，北宋词人，生卒年说法不一。他做过一些地方小官，和苏轼等人有来往。他的词清新自然，感情真挚，这首《惜分飞》是他最有名的作品。

The mood意境

The first half is the moment of parting. Her tears are like dew on a flower; her brows knit like gathered peaks. The poet says: let us share this pain equally. But neither can speak, and they just look at each other. The silence makes the sorrow plainer. The second half is after they part. Love is cut off, he has no heart for anything, and every morning and evening is lonely. The last two lines are tonight. Deep in the mountains at the monastery, his heart is broken, so he asks the river tide to carry it back. The tide can return, but he cannot. The idea is fresh, and it hurts to read.
