Background创作背景

This lyric is about missing someone in late spring. As spring ends, the poet remembers the places where he parted from and used to meet the one he loved. All day he writes lyrics and plays music to hold his longing. The lyric uses two old stories, Peach Leaf Ferry and the washing of skirts, both about lovers. We no longer know the year it was written or who it is about.

这是一首暮春怀人的词。词人在春天快结束时，想起从前和心上人分别、约会的地方，整天写词、弹琴来寄托思念。词里用了“桃叶渡”和“湔裙”两个典故，都和恋人有关。这首词写于哪一年、思念的是谁，都已经不清楚。

The poet作者

He Zhu (1052–1125), courtesy name Fanghui, was a Northern Song lyric poet. He came from the family of Empress He, wife of the first Song emperor. He was bold and frank by nature, but said to be very ugly. He held only modest posts all his life and in old age lived quietly near Suzhou. His lyrics range from bold to tender. Because of his famous line about rain when the plums turn yellow, people called him "He of the Plums".

贺铸（1052—1125），字方回，号庆湖遗老，北宋词人。他是宋太祖贺皇后家族的后代，性格豪爽，长相却很丑。他一生只做过不大的官，晚年隐居苏州一带。他的词既有豪放的，也有柔美的，因为写过“梅子黄时雨”的名句，人称“贺梅子”。

The mood意境

The first line is heavy: how many times he has grieved for spring, and now it is leaving again. Then comes a small detail. The willow shade stops the gossamer in the air, as if even the floating threads cannot get through, just as his longing is blocked. The small hills far away and the waterside full of white flowers are the places where he once parted from and met his love. In the second half he chants lyrics and plays music all day. He cannot put his feelings into words, so he gives them to the music. The last two lines are very light. A few drops of rain are held back by the wind, the moon is faint, and the clouds come and go. The hazy scene is just like his feelings, which he cannot quite name.

开头一句就很沉：为春天伤心了多少次，春天又要走了。接着他写了一个小细节：柳荫挡住了空中的游丝，好像连游丝都飘不过去，心里的思念也一样被挡住了。远处的小山、开满白蘋花的水边，都是当年和心上人分别、约会的地方。下半首写他整天吟词、弹琴，心事说不出，只好交给琴声。最后两句很轻：几点雨被风止住，月亮淡淡的，云来了又走。景色朦朦胧胧，就像他那说不清的心情。
