Background创作背景

This lyric is set in late spring, when spring is about to end. Sources disagree on when it was written. One view says Su Shi wrote it in his old age, when he was banished to Huizhou. A Song-dynasty note tells this story: in Huizhou, Su Shi asked his companion Wang Zhaoyun to sing it. When she reached the lines about willow fluff blowing away and fragrant grass everywhere, she was so sad that she wept and could not go on.

这首词写的是暮春时节，也就是春天快结束的时候。具体写作时间说法不一，一说是苏轼晚年被贬到惠州时写的。据宋人笔记记载，苏轼在惠州时，曾让侍妾王朝云唱这首词，她唱到“枝上柳绵吹又少，天涯何处无芳草”时，伤心得流下泪来，唱不下去。

The poet作者

Su Shi (1037–1101), who called himself the Lay Buddhist of Dongpo, was a great Northern Song writer. He was brilliant at poems, ci, prose, calligraphy and painting. He was banished to far-off places many times, yet he always faced life cheerfully. Most of his ci are bold, but many, like this one, are fresh and gentle.

苏轼（1037—1101），号东坡居士，北宋大文学家，诗、词、文章、书法、绘画样样都好。他一生多次被贬到远方，却总能乐观地面对。他的词多数豪放，但也有不少像这首一样清新婉转的作品。

The mood意境

The first stanza shows late spring. The red flowers are gone, green apricots have formed, swallows fly, and green water winds past the houses. The willow fluff blows away little by little. Spring is leaving, and that feels a bit sad. But Su Shi says right away: there is fragrant grass everywhere under heaven! Even in sadness he stays open-hearted. The second stanza tells a tiny story. Inside a wall a girl is on a swing. Her laughter floats over the wall, and a passer-by is charmed. Then the laughter fades and is gone. He feels empty, as if she had upset him on purpose, though she never knew he was there. The line about the feeling man troubled by the unfeeling girl is funny and a little sad. Many people have felt just this way.

上片写暮春的景色：红花谢了，青杏结了，燕子在飞，绿水绕着人家。柳絮越吹越少，春天要走了，有点让人伤感。可是苏轼马上说：天涯到处都有芳草啊！伤春里又带着豁达。下片讲一个小故事。墙里有姑娘荡秋千，笑声飘到墙外，一个路人听得入了迷。可笑声慢慢远了，没了。路人心里空落落的，好像被人惹恼了，其实姑娘根本不知道他在那里。这个“多情却被无情恼”写得又好笑又有点心酸，生活里很多人都有这种感觉。
