How to read it读音

骑qí: Sī qí means a neighing horse. Today this character is read qí. In old usage, as a noun for a mount, it was read jì.“嘶骑”指嘶叫的马，“骑”按现在的规范读 qí。古代当名词“骑的马”讲时读 jì。

Background创作背景

This lyric tells of a woman longing for her lover after they part. A Song dynasty book of notes says that as a young man, Zhang Xian loved a woman who lived in a small pavilion on a pond. They could only meet at night by a ladder, and later they had to part, so he wrote this lyric. Whether the story is true can no longer be known. It is also said that Ouyang Xiu loved the ending so much that he nicknamed Zhang Xian "the official of peach and apricot marrying the east wind".

这首词写一位女子和情人分别后的思念。据宋人笔记《过庭录》记载，张先年轻时爱上一位住在池中小阁里的女子，两人只能在夜里靠梯子相见，后来不得不分开，他便写了这首词。这个故事是否属实已无法确定。又据说欧阳修很喜欢这首词的结尾，称张先为“桃杏嫁东风郎中”。

The poet作者

Zhang Xian (990–1078) came from Wucheng, today's Huzhou in Zhejiang. He was a Northern Song lyric poet and served as a court official. He lived past eighty and knew Yan Shu, Ouyang Xiu and Su Shi. He was especially good at writing about shadows, as in his famous line about clouds parting and flowers playing with their shadows in the moonlight, so people called him "Zhang of the Three Shadows". His lyrics are soft and delicate, often about longing between lovers.

张先（990—1078），字子野，乌程（今浙江湖州）人，北宋词人，做过都官郎中。他活了八十多岁，和晏殊、欧阳修、苏轼都有来往。他特别会写“影”，有“云破月来花弄影”等名句，人称“张三影”。他的词细腻柔美，常写男女之间的思念。

The mood意境

It opens with a sigh: when will the pain of gazing far for him ever end? Nothing is stronger than love. Then she looks around. Willow strands toss and fluff fills the sky, just like the tangle in her heart. She remembers him riding away. The horse went farther, the dust rose all along the road, and at last not even his shadow could be seen. The second stanza shows where she lives. Ducks swim in pairs on the pond and little boats come and go freely, yet she is alone. After dusk the ladder is put away and only the slanting moon shines on her window, day after day. At the end comes a strange, sudden thought: I am worse off than the peach and apricot blossoms, for at least they get to marry the spring wind! The image is fresh and heartbreaking. It says her loneliness and bitterness completely, and it became a famous line for all time.
