Underlined words have notes: tap one. The Pinyin button below shows or hides all pinyin. 一 and 不 are marked with the tone you actually say.字下有虚线的,点开有注释。下方的“拼音”按钮可以显示或隐藏全部拼音。“一”“不”标的是实际读出来的变调。

The data writes yǐ (ant) and lú (stove) with older variant characters. The meaning is the same; textbooks use the standard forms.

数据里写作“绿螘新醅酒,红泥小火垆”。“螘”是“蚁”的异体字,“垆”在这里通“炉”,课本写作“蚁”和“炉”,意思一样。

Background创作背景

Liu Shijiu was a friend of Bai Juyi. "Shijiu", nineteen, was his birth order among the cousins of his generation. Who exactly he was is not agreed on. The poem is usually thought to come from Bai's years as an official in Jiangzhou, today's Jiujiang in Jiangxi, around 817, though some say the date cannot be fixed. One evening when snow was coming, Bai got the wine and the stove ready and wrote this poem to invite his friend over for a drink.

刘十九是白居易的朋友,“十九”是他在家族同辈兄弟中的排行,他具体是谁说法不一。这首诗一般认为是白居易在江州(今江西九江)做官时写的,大约在817年前后,一说时间不能确定。一个要下雪的傍晚,他备好了酒和火炉,写诗请朋友来喝一杯。

The poet作者

Bai Juyi (772–846) was a great Tang poet. He believed poems should be plain and easy to understand. A story says he would read new poems to an old woman who could not read, and only kept them once she understood. His poems spread very widely; "Song of Everlasting Sorrow" and "Song of the Pipa Player" are especially famous.

白居易(772—846),字乐天,号香山居士,唐代大诗人。他主张诗要写得通俗易懂,据说他写完诗会念给不识字的老婆婆听,听懂了才定稿。他的诗流传很广,《长恨歌》《琵琶行》都很有名。

The mood意境

This poem is like a warm little invitation card. The first line is about the wine: newly brewed, with pale green bubbles on top, so fresh you can almost smell it. The second line is about the stove: a small red clay stove with a bright fire, cosy and warm. The third line turns to the window: it is getting dark, snow is coming, and outside grows colder. The last line asks gently: can you come for a cup? The warmth inside sits beside the cold outside, and a friend reading this would probably want to set off at once. In twenty characters we get green wine, a red stove and white snow, lovely colours and a warm friendship.
