参cēn: This pair of characters, meaning uneven or tangled, is read cēn cī.“参差”读 cēn cī，意思是长短不齐、纷乱。

Background创作背景

This lyric is about a woman who has been abandoned. She and her lover once made vows, but he changed his heart, and nothing she did could win him back. In the end she regrets not choosing a plain, simple life. Another reading says the poet uses this woman to express his own grief after the fall of the Song, and his refusal to serve the new rulers. When it was written is not recorded.

这首词写一个被抛弃的女子。她和爱人曾经许下誓言，可是对方变了心，她怎么挽回也没有用，最后后悔当初没有选择平凡朴素的生活。一说作者借这个女子，寄托了宋朝灭亡以后自己的悲痛和不肯出来做官的心志。写作的具体时间没有记载。

The poet作者

Zhu Sifa lived at the end of the Song and the start of the Yuan. Little is recorded about his life. It is said that after the Song fell, the Yuan rulers offered him a post and he refused. Very few of his lyrics survive; this one is known because it was chosen for the anthology Three Hundred Song Lyrics.

朱嗣发是宋末元初的人，留下的生平资料很少。据说宋朝灭亡以后，元朝想请他做官，他不肯去。他传下来的词很少，这首因为被选进《宋词三百首》而出名。

The mood意境

In this lyric a woman stands in the west wind remembering. She clearly remembers the love knot on the purple sash and the vows over mirror and hairpin, but he has forgotten them all. She wants to put the fallen flower back on the branch, like mending a snapped jade hairpin, but it cannot be done. In the second stanza it is night. Her sorrow is so heavy it seems to press the clouds down, and the moonlight finds her awake. She tells herself that cloud or sun is up to heaven, so just get drunk. At last she says: if only I had chosen a plain life sooner, leaning on bamboo into old age, it would have been better than this. Many old stories make it hard to read, but the feeling is clear: deep disappointment, with a touch of stubborn pride.

这首词里，一个女子在西风中回想往事。紫罗带上的同心结，镜子和钗子前的誓言，她都记得清清楚楚，可对方全忘了。她想把落花安回枝头，就像想把碎了的玉簪接起来，可是做不到。下片到了夜里，愁重得像要把云压下来，月光照着她睡不着。她劝自己：天阴天晴由不得人，喝醉吧。最后她说：要是早点过粗布荆钗的日子，到老靠着竹子，也比现在好。这里用了很多旧故事，读起来有点难，但心情很清楚：深深的失望，和一点倔强。
