Underlined words have notes: tap one. The Pinyin button below shows or hides all pinyin. 一 and 不 are marked with the tone you actually say.字下有虚线的,点开有注释。下方的“拼音”按钮可以显示或隐藏全部拼音。“一”“不”标的是实际读出来的变调。

Our source text writes the last line with duò; most editions use zhuì. Both mean to fall down.

这里的底本末句作“堕楼人”,通行本多作“坠楼人”。堕、坠都是掉下来的意思。

Background创作背景

The Golden Valley Garden was the country house of Shi Chong, a very rich man of the Western Jin, northwest of Luoyang. It was once splendid. Shi Chong had a beloved named Lüzhu, who was beautiful and played the flute. A powerful official, Sun Xiu, wanted to take her. Shi Chong refused, so Sun Xiu had him falsely accused. When soldiers came to arrest him, Lüzhu jumped from a tower and died. By Tang times the garden lay in ruins. Passing by, Du Mu saw the spring scene, remembered the story, and wrote this poem. The year is not known.

金谷园是西晋大富豪石崇的别墅,在洛阳西北,当年非常豪华。石崇有个侍妾叫绿珠,美丽又会吹笛。权臣孙秀想夺走绿珠,石崇不肯,孙秀就陷害他。士兵来抓人时,绿珠从楼上跳下去死了。到了唐朝,金谷园早已荒废。杜牧经过这里,看到眼前的春景,想起这段往事,写下了这首诗。具体年份不详。

The poet作者

Du Mu (803–852) was a poet of the late Tang. He and Li Shangyin were called the Little Li and Du. He was especially good at seven-character quatrains, and often used old sites to share his thoughts about history, as in "Red Cliff" and "Mooring on the Qinhuai". His style is clear and graceful. "Mountain Walk" and "Qingming" are also famous poems of his.

杜牧(803—852),字牧之,晚唐诗人,和李商隐并称“小李杜”。他特别擅长写七言绝句,常常借古迹抒发感慨,比如《赤壁》《泊秦淮》。他的诗清丽俊爽,《山行》《清明》也是他的名作。

The mood意境

The first line says at once that all the old splendor has scattered like fragrant dust. The second shows what is there now: the water still flows, the grass still turns green, and nature does not care whether people rise or fall. In the third line, the birds crying in the evening wind sound as if they are weeping. The last line is the most moving. The poet watches petals drift down from the branches and suddenly thinks of Lüzhu leaping from the tower. A falling flower and a falling woman are both beautiful and both heartbreaking. The poet gives no lesson. With a few falling petals, he makes us feel how quickly splendor fades and how easily lovely things are lost.

第一句一开头就说,当年的繁华全都像香尘一样散了。第二句写眼前:流水照样流,野草照样绿,大自然不管人间的兴衰。第三句的鸟叫声,在黄昏的东风里听来像在哭诉。最后一句最动人:诗人看见花瓣从枝头飘落,忽然想起了当年从楼上跳下的绿珠。花落和人坠,一样美丽,也一样让人心痛。诗人没有讲道理,只用一片落花,就让人感到繁华易逝、美好的东西容易消失。
