数shǔ: Àn shǔ means to count silently in one's head. As a verb, this character is read shǔ.“暗数”是心里默默地数，“数”是动词，读 shǔ。
著zhuó: Here this character is read zhuó, meaning to be beside or keep company with.“著”这里读 zhuó，意思是附着、伴着。
醒xǐng: Today this character is read xǐng. In old times it could also be read in a level tone, rhyming with the other line endings.“醒”现在读 xǐng。古代它也有平声的读法，和“晴、屏、轻”等押韵。

Background创作背景

This lyric is set in late spring. The poet looks back on ten years of outings, misses a woman who once kept him company, and sighs that his youth is gone. The lake is thought by some to be West Lake, as Lu Zugao served as an official in Lin'an, today's Hangzhou. Who the woman was and the exact year it was written are no longer known.

这首词写暮春时节，词人回想十年来的旧游，怀念一位曾经相伴的女子，感叹年华老去。“湖上路”一说指杭州西湖，卢祖皋曾在临安（今杭州）做官。词里的女子是谁，写作的具体年份，都已无法确定。

The poet作者

Lu Zugao (about 1174–1224), known by his pen name Pujiang, came from Yongjia, today's Wenzhou in Zhejiang. He passed the top civil exam under Emperor Ningzong of the Southern Song and later held posts at court. His lyrics are clear, graceful and gentle, often about spring sorrow and memories of the past. His collected lyrics are called the Pujiang Lyrics.

卢祖皋（约1174—1224），字申之，号蒲江，永嘉（今浙江温州）人。南宋宁宗时考中进士，后来在朝中做官。他的词清丽婉转，多写春愁和怀旧，有词集《蒲江词》。

The mood意境

The first stanza begins on a morning. The sky has cleared after rain, the curtains are rolled up, the screen is half closed, and there is a slight chill. Outside, petals fall and their scent drifts. It should be lovely, yet every day it stirs up sorrow. Why? Because he is counting the lakeside paths of the past ten years, and the days with a lovely woman beside him were really very few. The second stanza is about now. The years slip by, he drifts from place to place, and he drinks to forget, but when he wakes there is no one beside him. The sky is wide and the clouds idle, yet he can no longer hear that familiar flute. The last three lines are like a long sigh: the joy of youth, carrying wine and buying flowers, feels completely different now. The words are light and plain, but the sorrow falls into his heart petal by petal.
