Background创作背景

Chao Buzhi wrote this lyric on Mid-Autumn night at Sizhou, near today's Xuyi in Jiangsu. In 1110 he was sent to govern Sizhou, and he died there not long after. This lyric is generally thought to be his last work. On Mid-Autumn night he gazed at the bright moon, thought of the distant capital, and imagined the fairyland on the moon. Then he wrote this lyric about enjoying the moon.

这首词是晁补之在泗州（今江苏盱眙一带）过中秋时写的。宋徽宗大观四年（1110年），他到泗州做知州，不久就在那里去世。一般认为这首词是他最后的作品。中秋夜，他望着天上的明月，想到遥远的京城，又想象月宫仙境，写下了这首赏月词。

The poet作者

Chao Buzhi (1053–1110), courtesy name Wujiu, also called Guilaizi, came from Juye in Jizhou, today's Juye in Shandong. He was a Northern Song writer. With Huang Tingjian, Qin Guan and Zhang Lei he was one of the Four Scholars of the Su School, all students of Su Shi. Court power struggles got him sent away from the capital several times, and for some years later in life he lived quietly in the countryside. His lyrics are bold and free, a little like Su Shi's.

晁补之（1053—1110），字无咎，号归来子，济州巨野（今山东巨野）人，北宋文学家。他和黄庭坚、秦观、张耒一起被称为“苏门四学士”，都是苏轼的学生。他一生在朝廷的党争中几次被贬，晚年曾退居乡间多年。他的词风格豪放，有点像苏轼。

The mood意境

This whole lyric is about the moon, yet it never once uses the word for moon. At the start, the moon flies out of the blue mist like a golden mirror. Then the cassia's shadow lies on the steps, and autumn insects call in the cold dew. He thinks the capital is far, but the palace on the moon seems close at hand. The second stanza moves indoors. The curtain stays up, the screen stands open, and cold moonlight falls on a lady's face. The best part is his wish at the end. He wants to pour all the moonlight in the sky into his wine cup and drink with everyone until dawn. Then he wants to carry a chair up the South Tower and watch the moon turn the whole world into white jade. As you read, imagine an autumn night when everything glows silver, as if people lived in a world made of jade: cool, clear and wide open.

这首词从头到尾写的都是月亮，却一次也没有直接说“月”字。开头，月亮像一面金镜从青烟里飞出来；接着，台阶上躺着桂树的影子，秋虫在凉露里叫。他想起京城很远，月宫却好像近在眼前。下片写屋里：帘子不放，屏风打开，月光冷冷地照在美人脸上。最妙的是后面的想法：要把满天的月光都倒进酒杯，和大家喝到天亮；还要搬把椅子登上南楼，看月光把整个人间变成一片白玉。读这首词，可以想象一个秋夜，到处都是银白色的光，人好像住在玉做的世界里，清冷，又很开阔。
